America is the fattest place on the planet. We are the sickest. Obesity, heart disease, diabetes, and cancers are at an all time high! We spend BILLIONS of dollars on fad diets, fitness craze products and supplements... anything for a quick fix. We make excuses to not exercise, we make excuses not to eat healthy yet we will spend BILLIONS of dollars trying to get there... However, I have heard on many occasions; "It is too expensive to eat healthy:" REALLY?! We will pay now or pay later? YOU will either set a strong foundation for your children's health or you will create a burden for their future. We have choices! What do you think of the state of American's health??

I think that there are so many myths out there about how we should eat that Americans are left confused and brainwashed. The little girl I mentor was told by her dr. that she was overweight. Instead of bringing healthier food into the house, or looking into how she could feed her child healthier food on a budget, the girl's mom told her to drink a glass of grape fruit juice every morning and skip breakfast to lose weight. When I hear things like this it makes me cringe because people are incredibly misinformed.
ReplyDeleteI also do not think they realize that eating whole foods can often be cheaper than eating processed foods. Oatmeal and fresh fruit for breakfast is cheaper and more nutritious than a processed cereal bar or pop tart but many people do not realize this and opt for the processed sugar laden alternative.
Education is the answer, but a lot of these myths about food are deep rooted and it will take a lot to change some people's minds!
I could not agree with you more, it frustrates me every day to see children and adults barraged with incorrect information. Especially when it comes across as "healthy advice". If it is a product that can claim something and have a label on it, it is probably not a good thing to eat in the first place.
DeleteIt is going to take a great deal of education! and Voting with our dollars to change this mess of a food industry that we have allowed to continue for so long.
feel free to share the free seminar I have coming up on the 24th of this month http://www.facebook.com/events/306458859429049/
